    Carlow County Council was named Local Authority of the Year at the Chambers Ireland Annual Excellence in Local Government Awards, held in association with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government.

    The Building Control Management System (BCMS) was awarded top prize for use of Open Source technology at the Egovernment Awards 2016. The awards honours the pioneering work of public sector teams who are delivering better online services to Irish citizens today. This award goes beyond the simple use of an open source package and recognises real, practical participation in an open source project or community.

    The Arts Council and Local Government held a major joint conference on January 12th in Dublin Castle, exploring how public investment in the arts can help to build sustainable and cohesive local communities.

  • Local authorities continue to concentrate on improved performance and implement reform

    The National Oversight and Audit Commission (NOAC) has published the Local Government Performance Indicators for 2015. The figures for 2015 are evidence of improved performance in areas such as housing, environment initiatives, online facilities and community-based services.

  • BCMS wins Civil Service Excellence and Innovation Award

    LGMA received an award in the Civil Service Excellence and Innovation Award for the Building Control and Management System (BCMS) Project.  The award for 'Excellence through Collaboration' recognised the work undertaken in delivering a system across the Local Authority sector, facilitating compliance in the building industry.

Minister Breen meets with Local Authority Chief Executives and LEOs and announces increase in funding for microenterprise and new start-ups in 2017

Minister for Small Business and Employment, Pat Breen TD announced (24th Jan) an additional €4m in funding for the Local Enterprise Offices to stimulate new start-ups and jobs across the country and to help micro businesses to cope with challenges in the year ahead. This Additional funding will drive job creation around the country.

Building Control Management System (BCMS)

The Building Control Management System (BCMS) was developed by LGMA and Fingal County County and implemented in March 2014.  It allows property owners, builders, developers, architects and engineers to submit notifications, applications and compliance certificates online.  It provides an internal management system for the processing of notices received online and over the counter in local authorities.
